Farm Shows Resume

Hello and welcome back to the Remlinger Mfg newsletter. Well it has finally happened, Farm Trade Shows have finally resumed. I had hoped July and early August shows would provide a few clues as to how farm shows would be attended after being shut down for over a year. Since Remlinger did not attend these early shows, I am reporting to you based on reports from other companies and colleagues, and the results are mixed.  Of the three shows I researched attendance at, one was excellent while attendance at the other 2 was to be blunt dismal. Another interesting item is the number of companies participating dropped by an estimated 25%.

Our first attended show was The Farm Progress Show, Decatur IL. The show had a smaller number of exhibitors. Although the quality of visitors was excellent, their numbers were also slightly lower than previous years. The show was blessed with excellent weather all 3 days. Farm Science Review, London OH was our second show. Unfortunately cold, wet, windy conditions hampered the first day, cancelled the second, and while still cold and windy, day three showed some improvement. I guess we just needed to be reminded that no matter what you do or how much you plan, Mother Nature is ultimately in charge.

Prior to Covid, we had made a decision to reduce the number of farm shows we would attend, focusing instead on website upgrades and social media. We had seen a fairly large drop in attendees and exhibitors in the smaller venues and I believe this trend will continue. The need for attendees desire to physically see product is, I believe, a very real need so we will continue to attend the large shows for the foreseeable future.
